The Society for Animals in Distress (S.A.D) was founded in 1971 in Toronto by Mr. Alan McGinn. He started the Society in response to the Animals for Research Act, which allowed stray animals in pounds and humane societies to be seized for medical research if not claimed within three days which he hated. Mr. McGinn successfully ran chapters of S.A.D in Toronto, Cambridge, Cobourg and Apsley before moving to Elliot Lake in 1995. On arriving in Elliot Lake he opened this chapter. Mr. McGinn passed away in February 2000, but we continue his work.
