"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
    Mahatma Gandhi

The Board of Directors of the Society for Animals in Distress (SAD) has been working on a restructuring plan that would give the organization an opportunity to become more stable and to insure its success into the future.  For financial reasons the Board has had to make some difficult decisions, one of which is to reduce the paid staffing complement.

SAD will remain open and offer the same service to the community as it has in the past. Its primary focus continues to be the well-being of domestic animals.

SAD will continue to accept surrendered animals from the public and offer adoption and boarding services at its
Shelter location at 33 Perini Road.

We encourage people to come and browse our wide selection of items for sale at the Sunshine Shop on Elizabeth Walk, across from the movie theatre.  SAD always welcomes new volunteers and has a number of opportunities for individuals of all ages to contribute their time and talent.

SAD is grateful for the support it has received from its dedicated volunteers, the citizens and businesses of Elliot Lake. We hope that we can count on your continued support as we move forward.

For more information on the organization, find out more about volunteering and the latest updates on animals available for adoption, visit us at http://www.sadelliotlake.com or call us at
(705) 461-3197. 8am - 3pm Monday to Friday.

SAD totally relies on your donations to help us feed, shelter and take care of our abused, abandoned and homeless pets.  We spay/neuter all our animals prior to adoption and your donations help us to accomplish this.  Canada Helps is a great way to donate. Your donation is fully tax deductible and you can receive your income tax receipt immediately on line - no need to wait.

You can also make a donation to SAD using PayPal.

HOW COULD YOU?

POEM BY JIM WILLIS

COPYRIGHT 2001

When I was a puppy, I entertained you with my antics and made you laugh. You called me your child, and despite a number of chewed shoes and a couple of murdered throw pillows, I became your best friend. Whenever I was "bad," you'd shake your finger at me and ask "How could you?" - but then you'd relent, and roll me over for a bellyrub.
